Minden – Outreach Ministery

ANNUAL REPORT

I had not intended to practice any type of ministry once I retired from a life of pastoral service with The United Church of Canada. I served a variety of congregations for 37 years. However being Ordained (incardinated), as a minister by All Seasons Church of Canada into an Out Reach Ministry these past few years has energized my life and ministry.

All Seasons Church of Canada has provided me with a vehicle of pastoral service which has allowed me to reach out to individuals who have become disillusioned with organized religion. It has been a privilege, not only to be of pastoral service, but also to be connected to a network of individuals who have seen the need for an alternative religious worship services.

Workshops:

Prior to my retirement, I became aware of the large numbers of individuals, who, while no longer attending Sunday worship services, still have a need to explore their spirituality in different forms of worship.

Because of my availability and experience, I was able to lead a number of six week course on Progressive Christianity. The attendees were for the most part seekers.

During the fall, I was invited again to lead a six week workshop on “The Heart of Christianity”.

These events presented an emerging paradigm that is beginning to suggest to mature adults there is a way of worshiping and celebrating their faith, in an honest, and searching way.

Grief Counselling Programs:

During the past year, I became aware of a number of individuals who have lost loved ones. While they were able to attend Grief Workshops, their grieving continued.

I researched a program entitled “Grief Share”, This is a program that provides an opportunity for grieving individuals to get in touch at a deeper level with their loss and what it can mean to them.

Weddings:

It was my privilege to perform the weddings for 19 couples who came to me from a variety of sourses. These marriages took place in a variety of settings. Some weddings took place at cottages, resorts, by lakes, and open fields. All the couples chose their settings for family or sentimental reasons. I was able to share pastoral care in the relaxed settings, and the honesty, and sincerity, with which the couples approached their ceremonies.

I hope I can continue to serve in this growing Outreach Ministry in the coming years.

Sincerely

Norman S Thomas.
