All Seasons Church of Canada

Annual Report for 2007

I continue my duties at Queens University Theological College.
In addition I have a congregational ministry:

I currently lead a small congregation under the title of Transfiguration Church.  Services are held every Sunday evening in the chapel of Queen’s Theological College.  The service is best described as reflective and contemplative and includes readings from the Bible or other sacred and inspired writings, a reflection on the day’s theme, a time of quiet meditation, communion, and a sharing of peace.  Recorded music is currently used to create a peaceful and reflective atmosphere - sacred music from a variety of styles and traditions.  Weekly attendance varies from 6-20 people and attendees range in age from 25 to 75.  Most would describe themselves as “spiritual but not religious” and this congregation provides an opportunity for them to gather with likeminded people.  The theology emphasizes personal transformation and spiritual growth.

Study Groups:

Two book study groups were held in 2007 each with 8 participants.  The books used for the study groups were Ekhart Tolle’s The Power of Now, and “The Diamond in your Pocket by Gangagi.

Pastoral Counselling:

I do a considerable amount of pastoral counseling – most from word of mouth referrals.  Issues have included separation and divorce, spiritual crisis, and career and life direction.

Special Event:

In May, my congregation hosted a special event called Cultivating Peace.  About 65 people from Kingston and area gathered for a day focused on exploring how we can become peacemakers in our life situations.  Special guest and keynote speaker was Jurme Wangda, President of the Ottawa Friends of Tibet and former bodyguard to the Dalai Lama.  The event received extensive media coverage including a front page article in the Kingston Whig Standard.

Weddings and Baptisms:

During 2007, I presided at 17 weddings and 1 baptism.  It was a joy to be part of people’s significant life moments.  Weddings spanned the spectrum from large elaborate events with 200 guests to small intimate affairs with a handful of guests.  All couples were great to work with and the feedback was very positive and appreciative.
