2008 Ministry Report
Being a minister in All Seasons Church of Canada offers many pastoral ministries.Social Justice and Global outreach mission:
In the past year the international aspect of my pastoral development work continues in the Dominican Republic, particularly in Cambita and surrounding mountain villages. I continue to be active in development projects. Part of my pastoral work has been with members of my community, helping them to become aware and involved in world social issues. We had times of reflection and discussions on the Christian basis of social justice. Funds were raised for specific projects - health clinic, school fees and simple home construction- in Cambita.
This pastoral work includes contacting people internationally in Ireland and Australia. This year’s aid was done through letters and photos explaining the needs as expressed by a Canadian missionary in Cambita. We are in constant contact with the missionary sisters who work there.
This outreach programme is a part of my present pastoral ministry with people here in Canada and in other countries. It is an opportunity to raise awareness and solidarity to help these people in Cambita to regain human dignity and to help them develop themselves. These people are not passive receivers of aid, but participate in giving their time, effort and finance to realize the project.
All Season’s ministry and personal development:
I understand the ministry in All Seasons Church as a call to serve others It is to be open to other people’s needs, to listen to them, to share one’s understanding, to counsel and to facilitate others to develop their spiritual values. It is to reflect on and be true to one’s inner religious values while respecting the spiritual development of others.
All Seasons Church supports us through their website that is a source of information and formation, continuous contact with online directives, thought provoking discussions, and a means to contact other ministers to exchange ideas and knowledge.
Reading, sharing and reflection helps us to continue to improve our service to others.
Marriage preparation meetings and Ceremonies:
Marriage preparations and the celebration of weddings is a major part of my ministry with All Seasons Church. This pastoral activity takes place within the Ottawa Region. In 2008 I have met with couples to share and develop a wedding service that answers their particular spiritual needs. In dialogue with these couples I am always aware and respect their age, cultural background and beliefs. These individual meetings last for an hour or more. This pastoral communication continues through e-mails. Meeting the couple is an excellent way to help them prepare for married life and to focus on the values that are important in their lives.
Meeting the families and friends of the bride and groom on the wedding day helps to bring unity and joy to the celebration.
Renewal of Marriage Vows:
I
am available to renew wedding vows for wedding anniversaries. It is
a wonderful experience to meet the couple, after many years of
sharing their lives together and raising a family, to prepare the
service. Their wisdom and love opens up a true spiritual encounter. It
is a wonderful pastoral experience to meet the couple, their
children, grandchildren and friends. This ceremony brings
generations together to celebrate the spiritual bond that is part of
the family unity.
Conclusion:
All Seasons Church offers me the opportunity to share a ministry with people who search for spiritual celebrations at key moments in their lives, specifically through my marriage ministry. It also opens up an international ministry and links the home ministry with a mission one.
Sincerely,
Michael
O’Callaghan
